Since I opened my blog on the website it has been a world of difference when it comes to comments and their sources. I previously hosted a poetry blog, where I posted my poems and thoughts, I have yet to put this blog back up since I have no time to keep up with it. But on that blog I would get very personal emails from people who enjoyed my writings and they were really very real. Nowadays, I face these spam-like messages on my posts that are not connecting to me but creating links and ping back to their own websites. And that is the topic I would like to discuss today!
Gary Vaynerchuck is a visionary when it comes to online and social network business practices. If you have time, read his book, why now is the time to CRUSH IT!. I must say I really enjoyed that book because it simplified to a great extent how to implement the whole “Personal Brand” concept. It also helped me define my passion and niche. One key activity every business or person online looking to build a brand should be given attention is networking on a social level with their audience, building relationships. The reason why this is beneficial is that every time you post on someone’s blog, comment on their video or interact with them via Twitter, when done correctly, you’re website, topic and name gets more entries online, and so does your exposure.
This led me to realizing that the websites these people are commenting me from are doing just that, albeit somewhat impersonally. They are heavily outsourcing these tasks, creating a higher rank for their sites.
Here are some key elements to remember when placing comments:
- Make comments that are genuine, helpful and positive, when this harmonizes your brand. If you are being “The Jerk” comment in the manner that best represents you.
- Share helpful tips, leave the sales pitch home, people will read into it and your comment will not be welcome.
- Include a simple link to your website at the end of your comment. If the conversation gets lengthy only link once in your comments.
- Attend to commenting yourself or hire someone to do it of whom you are sure they will handle it correctly.
- Post in related business, personal and group blogs and sites. You want to reach out to your target audience, do this by looking for them where they would be. Turning a crowd over to your side is often counterproductive.
- Be patient. Rome was not built in a day, your website took weeks to prepare and it will take months to establish yourself and create the exposure your website deserves.
- Be selective. Which websites, topics and groups do you want to be associated with? Does this matter? To some extent very much, imagine a possible contact sees your comment on a site related to casinos, gambling and porn, regardless of why they were there, the relation made to your personal brand could be very damaging.
